Hempcrete

Hempcrete is a sustainably-sourced biocomposite building material composed of hemp shives and a lime binder. In addition to acting as an insulator, fire retardant, and moisture regulator, Hempcrete is lightweight and lacks the brittleness of traditional concrete although has significantly lower compression strength.

Hempcrete also acts as a carbon-storing material, with the specific amount of carbonates in the material increasing with age. The materials used to create hempcrete biocomposites absorb CO2 during the curing process.

Hemp-based biocomposites can be cast or sprayed in place, or utilized in preformed building blocks with commercial, industrial, and residential applications.
