Coconut Husk Insulation

Coconut husk fiber, also known as Coir, is a natural fibrous material extracted from between the husk and outer shell of a coconut. The fibers have historically been used for rope, roofing, and boatbuilding, and in modern times, utilized in the production of floor mats, brushes, and mattresses.

Industrially processed from raw coconut shells, coir fiber is one of most resilient commercial natural fibers. It’s low decomposition rate and high lignin content make it incredibly dense, strong, and highly durable.

Coir has found a resurgence with it’s highly insulating properties, both in commercial and product applications. One of the most notable brands to utilize it is Fortuna with their Nutshell Coolers.
